"The USHCC applauds Sen. John Cornyn's recent efforts to help improve infrastructure needs along our nation's land border ports of entry. By partnering with Texas delegation members Rep. Henry Cuellar and Rep. Beto O'Rourke, Senator Cornyn has reaffirmed his commitment to bipartisan legislation introduced last session that addresses commerce-hindering congestion at our borders.
"The Cross Border Trade Enhancement Act of 2015 encourages innovative cost sharing agreements to carry out infrastructure improvement projects, and the Emergency Port of Entry Personnel and Infrastructure Funding Act of 2015 would ensure that our U.S. Customs and Border Protection units are better staffed and financed, leading to more efficient trade.
"With the Panama Canal expansion nearly complete and two Free Trade Agreements being discussed, trade remains at the forefront of the national discussion. These pieces of legislation are positive steps forward in helping promote business and national security interests along our nation's northern and southern borders.
