InterDigital to Sponsor IEEE ComSoc Small Cells Webinar

WILMINGTON, Del., March 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, will sponsor "Small Cells Big Gains: Increasing Cellular Capacity," a webinar hosted by the IEEE Communications Society, on March 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM EDT.

During the webinar, Dexter Johnson, author of IEEE Spectrum's blog The Nanoclast, will moderate a discussion that surrounds the deployment of small cell technologies and their impact for operators from two distinct perspectives. Cristian Gomez, Spectrum Regulation and Policy Officer, Radiocommunication Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union, will evaluate the topic based on what is possible in terms of the current regulatory framework, while Harpreet S. Dhillon, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, will evaluate the topic from a future technological perspective.

"Small cells are one of the most cost efficient ways to meet the projected data capacity demands," said Dr. Byung K. Yi, Executive Vice President, InterDigital Labs, and Chief Technology Officer at InterDigital. "With decades of experience in mobile technology R&D, InterDigital has made small cell technologies a key component of our 5G research, and sponsoring this webinar with the IEEE ComSoc underscores the importance of the technology."

InterDigital's work to develop cost-effective small cell solutions for 5G wireless technologies was highlighted by its launch of EdgeHaul™, a small cell backhaul solution, at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. Designed to operate in the global V-Band (60 GHz), EdgeHaul™ delivers LTE-A ready Gbps transport in a self-healing, inexpensive system configuration.
