Technopolis to Sponsor Finnish National Junior Cycling Team

TECHNOPOLIS PLC         PRESS RELEASE             MARCH 30, 2015 at 2.30 p.m.

Technopolis to Sponsor Finnish National Junior Cycling Team

Technopolis' CEO Keith Silverang is a passionate cyclist with a keen interest in healthy living and the development of cycling.

"This is an excellent opportunity for us to support young cyclists and help them grow as athletes. They are at the very beginning of their sports careers, making long-term choices about their futures – whether to continue as athletes and aim to be world-beaters, or to choose another profession," he says.

Being active plays a key role in the prevention and treatment of diseases that endanger or impair working and functional capacity. There is a clear link between employees who regularly exercise and decreased absence rates and healthcare expenses, increased efficiency and longer careers. People need sports and physical exercise to stay healthy and lively.

"Technopolis thinks it's important to promote fitness for its employees – and its customers' employees. All of our campuses have changing rooms with showers, and many also feature a gym," says Keith, describing Technopolis' commitment to healthy living and physical exercise.

"Cycling is an environmentally responsible choice that promotes productive work through improved employee well-being. This can prove crucial to stimulating the Finnish economy. The growth companies that are driving the economy should pay particular attention to the well-being and productivity of their employees. We cannot compete with cheap labor; our best advantage is a smart, well-trained workforce that feels fit and energized," Keith says about the wider importance of healthy living.

Top Finnish cyclists with international success established Fincycling in 2014. Its founding members include: Jussi Veikkanen, Kjell Carlström, Charly Wegelius and Joona Laukka. The association aims to increase appreciation of bike racing in Finland.

"It was great to have Technopolis and Keith, an avid cyclist, to join our activities. It is exactly this kind of organization and people committed to promoting cycling that we need," Fincycling's Kjell Carlström says.

The Technopolis logo will be visible on the clothing and team vehicles of the Finnish national junior cycling team. Fincycling will also take part in Technopolis' first Tour de Technopolis event, in which Keith and Team Technopolis will cycle 100 kilometers together with other enthusiasts. The route runs via all the Technopolis campuses in the Helsinki metropolitan area, starting from Ruoholahti and continuing via the Vantaa airport campus and Innopoli in Otaniemi before returning to Ruoholahti.
