New Broadcast Backhaul Solution Delivers More Remote Video Content at Significantly Less Cost Using Public Internet

Haivision backhaul solutions give broadcasters a better alternative for live video transport compared with satellite or MPLS networks


MONTREAL, April 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Haivision announces new Internet-based video backhaul solutions, bringing broadcasters a more flexible and cost-effective alternative to satellite or MPLS networks for live video transport. Haivision will exhibit its broadcast backhaul solutions at the NAB Show at the Renaissance Hotel (Paramount Room, 2nd floor) from April 13-16.

Haivision's new backhaul solutions enable broadcasters to use public Internet connections to transport live remote video and on-the-ground coverage into studio environments so that it can be seamlessly integrated into any production including live interviews, commentary and online content.

Satellite delivery presents many roadblocks for broadcasters – long lead times, exorbitant costs and scheduling challenges are preventing broadcasters from meeting their audience's demand for more content. Haivision's new Internet-based video backhaul solutions help broadcasters get their content where they need it quickly – essential for timely news pieces and critical for the viewer experience.

Haivision's suite of video streaming solutions make it possible for broadcasters to use the Internet to send high quality, secure live video to studio environments. With the Haivision Media Gateway, Makito X video encoders and decoders, and SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Internet streaming protocol, broadcasters can distribute video over Internet connections to multiple studios, or gather live video from multiple remote locations. The SRT protocol optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks, like the Internet, by ensuring packet loss recovery, stream security, and network health monitoring. With the Haivision Media Gateway and Makito X encoder, broadcasters can harvest live video content over Internet connections from multiple remote production venues and re-distribute the streams within a central production venue.
