Teamsters Threaten to Leave Allegiant Passengers Stranded Through Strike

LAS VEGAS, April 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Allegiant has reason to believe that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1224, representing Allegiant Air pilots, intends to initiate an illegal strike against our company. This irresponsible and illegal action by the Teamsters has been timed to coincide with the busy holiday travel period, and unfortunately, will likely disrupt flights and passengers in and out of all of our destinations.

We have activated additional call center staff, and Allegiant will be contacting affected travelers directly to alert them of this development and make them aware of available travel options. Additionally, customers may sign up for flight alerts for individual flights at Allegiant.com/flight-status, or check for Travel Advisories at Allegiant.com/travel-advisory.

Allegiant is taking immediate legal action to put an end to the strike and restore normal service as quickly as possible.

Allegiant Air had been actively negotiating with the Teamsters through November of last year, and had hoped to continue these negotiations to avoid this disruption for our passengers. However, instead of addressing their issues at the bargaining table, the Teamsters have resorted to heavy-handed and disruptive tactics rather than working toward a resolution.

While our team will continue to seek a positive dialogue with the Teamsters, and work toward a resolution, disruption to our operations may be inevitable. We deeply regret the impact on our passengers and will make every effort to ensure it is temporary and limited.

Customers wishing to have an Allegiant representative contact them should call 773-358-1811, and keep in mind wait times will be extremely long.

For updates on this situation, please check the Allegiant "Press Room" page on Allegiant.com.

At this time, we are working on scheduling regular press updates. We will send a media alert with that information as soon as it is scheduled.
