OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Apr. 09, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Black & Veatch today announced that Jim Spenceley, a project executive with broad global experience in the mining industry, has been named Senior Vice President for Mining. He is based in Denver, Colorado.
Spenceley will focus Black & Veatch’s energy, water and telecommunications solutions on the needs of mining clients. His appointment comes as slumping commodity prices are forcing mining operators to seek expertise to improve efficiency and better position capital investments.
“Pricing pressures and stakeholder expectations are combining to make this one of the most challenging times in recent memory for mining operators,” Spenceley said. “The company has put together a globally respected team that is demonstrating how the industry can leverage the relationship among energy, water and communications.”
Spenceley joins a team at Black & Veatch that includes Chief Technical Officer Dennis Gibson, a former Rio Tinto executive with more than 30 years of global mining experience. Black & Veatch project director Brady Hays is directing the largest mine desalination project in South America.
Spenceley has worked in North and South America, Africa, Australia and Indonesia. He has project experience in arctic, altitude and tropical environments. He was an international director and group executive responsible for global project services at Newmont Mining Corporation before joining Black & Veatch.
