NEW YORK, April 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Amid the rapid development of its international division, ALM's The American Lawyer has announced two upcoming transatlantic events this June, featuring keynote speeches from top E.U. officials. The 2nd annual U.S. – E.U. Legal Summit will take place at the Steigenberger Grand Hotel in Brussels, Belgium on Tuesday, June 30th. Three weeks earlier, on June 4th — in conjunction with ALM's Law.com and Corporate Counsel — The American Lawyer's Transatlantic General Counsel Summit will take place at Fishmongers Hall in London.
As a result of The American Lawyer's partnership with the European Commission, Ignacio García Bercero, E.U. Chief Negotiator of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, will be delivering the keynote address at the U.S. – E.U. Legal Summit in Brussels. This select gathering will bring together in-house counsel from the E.U.'s foremost corporations to discuss key concerns and practical solutions with respect to the intersection of U.S. – E.U. law.
The event will address the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, which will be the world's largest bilateral trade and investment deal that is still being negotiated between the European Union and the United States. As both sides struggle to secure an agreement that will apparently pump billions of euros into economies on both sides of the Atlantic, the summit will analyze what this deal will mean for leading multinationals in the E.U., along with several issues also raised by the potential partnership, such as: a rise in antitrust concerns, corporate tax implications and complexities of data protection. The summit speakers will use their diverse experiences to draw an up-to-date picture of the interaction of states and businesses across the E.U. and U.S.
Earlier in the month, Fernando Perreau de Pinninck, Head of Unit, Tariff & Non-tariff Negotiations of the European Commission, will be speaking at the Transatlantic General Counsel Summit. This exclusive one-day event, which is followed by an evening celebration at the Transatlantic Legal Awards, will bring together the FTSE 250 General Counsel for an opportunity to strategize on their transatlantic legal partnership with the U.S. The event will offer an update from the European Commission, provide insight into whether a company's business model is vulnerable and provide an ultimate guide to M&A in the United States, among many other topics.
