USHCC Joins Sheryl Sandberg and LeanIn.Org for "Take Your Kids to Work Day"

WASHINGTON, April 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation is proud to announce its participation in "Take Your Kids to Work Day" in partnership with LeanIn.Org, set to take place on April 23, 2015. As an extension of the #LeanInTogether campaign for gender equality, "Take Your Kids to Work Day" allows children to see their moms and dads as both active parents and leaders at work. The USHCC is participating to further support inclusiveness and encourage business leaders to join the movement.

LeanIn.Org is a nonprofit organization founded by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg with a mission to empower all women to achieve their ambitions. The #LeanInTogether campaign encourages men to advocate for gender equality both at work and at home, noting that we can't reach true equality until women are celebrated as leaders and men are celebrated as nurturers. "Take Your Kids to Work Day" underscores these messages within #LeanInTogether, encouraging children to expand their ambitions by seeing and celebrating all sides of their parents.

This partnership with Lean In is based on the USHCC's initiative to maximize the success of women in business and leadership and promote workplace inclusiveness across the country.

"The USHCC is proud to support 'Take Your Kids to Work Day' with Lean In, an organization whose guiding principles parallel our own," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "In the daily work we do within our office and with our corporate and government partners, the USHCC continues to promote the success of women in every industry, and we recognize that when women succeed, America succeeds. We are proud to join the 'Lean In' movement and will continue inspiring men and women to be outspoken advocates for gender equality."

Participants in "Take Your Kids to Work Day" are encouraged to share their involvement on social media by posting photos with the hashtag #LeanInTogether. LeanIn.Org also has provided materials to facilitate discussions that increase awareness of gender stereotypes in TV and movies, encourage children to set goals and create clear paths to achieving them, celebrate equality, and offer actionable tips for parents.

The USHCC is using organizational relationships with corporate partners, Hispanic Business Enterprises, elected and appointed officials, and local chambers to encourage members to host "Take Your Kids to Work Day" in their offices. The organization will highlight participants' involvement online through social media.
