NEWPORT NEWS, Va., April 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that Ritchie-Curbow Construction Company, Inc. has been awarded the contract to build the new Huntington Ingalls Industries Family Health Center at its Newport News Shipbuilding division. The health center, scheduled to open this fall on Washington Avenue between 45th and 46th streets in Newport News, will offer primary care, radiology, physical therapy, laboratory services and an on-site pharmacy for eligible Newport News employees and their covered dependents.

"Newport News Shipbuilding is a driving force in our local economy, and all of our staff and vendors know friends and relatives who work there," said Joseph C. Ritchie Jr., president of Ritchie-Curbow Construction. "Ritchie-Curbow Construction is honored to work with NNS to provide a quality health care facility at a convenient location to the shipyard employees, and we are looking forward to a great team relationship with NNS."

The lot on Washington Avenue has been sectioned off to begin construction of the future health center. When complete, the 21,894-square foot facility will have 19 exam rooms in addition to five specialty exam rooms and two pediatric exam rooms. A section of the building will be dedicated to physical therapy, including five physical therapy exam rooms. Additionally, the building will have X-ray and chemistry labs and other rooms for education and meetings. The health center will also have an in-house, full service pharmacy complete with drive-through service.

The health center will be operated by QuadMed, a nationally recognized innovator in offering on-site primary care centers and healthcare management solutions. When it opens, services will be available to non-represented employees and their dependents enrolled in eligible Anthem consumer-driven health plan or preferred-provider option plans. Union leadership has expressed interest in making the health center available to the represented population, and discussions have begun.

"This health center will provide convenient, affordable care for our employees and their families in a location close to work," said Bill Bell, Newport News' vice president of human resources and administration. "Employees and dependents will have full access to health coaches, doctors, pharmacists and nurses so they can more easily make health and wellness a priority."

The Huntington Ingalls Industries Family Health Center at Newport News Shipbuilding is one of two new centers opening for HII employees. A second health center is being opened at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Mississippi. The centers are part of HII's larger benefits strategy designed to further engage employees and their families in their own health and wellness and make quality healthcare more accessible. The strategy also includes the recent addition of Teladoc, a program that allows employees to consult with board-certified physicians on non-emergency medical issues via telephone, mobile application or computer. Additionally, HII is offering a preferred rate for healthcare insurance to eligible employees who attest that they do not use tobacco or complete a tobacco-cessation program.
