Capstone to Upgrade Melbourne Office Tower With Efficient Trigeneration Solution

CHATSWORTH, Calif., April 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it received an order for a C600 microturbine to upgrade an office tower in downtown Melbourne, Australia.

Optimal Group, Capstone's Australian distributor, secured the order, which is expected to be commissioned later this year. This continues the combined heat and power (CHP) momentum in Australia and comes on the heels of a January order for a C600 microturbine and a C800 microturbine to upgrade a major building in the Sydney Central Business District (CBD).

The natural-gas-fueled C600 microturbine will be installed in a combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) application to provide on-site primary power, hot water recovery and cooling to the Melbourne office tower every day of the year. The trigeneration project will ensure the office tower is highly efficient while also providing the building owner a significant economic benefit.

According to the Australia Department of the Environment National Energy Savings Initiative, energy efficiency is generally a low-cost source of abatement, which may reduce the cost of achieving Australia's carbon reduction targets.

The environment-friendly system was designed to provide base load power with energy efficiency levels nearing 80 percent. Capstone microturbines empower businesses to achieve energy independence by reducing or eliminating their dependency on the utility.

"We are seeing an increasing number of businesses in Australia exploring environmental best practices and thus adopting CHP or CCHP technologies," said Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Capstone Turbine. "Capstone microturbines not only help customers reduce their carbon footprint, but they also help them to reach their economic and sustainability goals as well," added Crouse.
