Follow-Up on Beaconsfield's Waste Reduction Strategy

Consultation report on last October's Open Houses, approved by Council and several new measures to be implemented in 2015

BEACONSFIELD, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - April 30, 2015) - The City of Beaconsfield is pleased to confirm the submission and approval of the consultation report on last October's Waste Reduction Strategy Open Houses. This report is now available on the City website. In addition, in order to address the concerns expressed by residents at the Open Houses, additional waste management services have been set up. There will be 22 new green residue collections, 8 new collections of bulky items, construction, renovation and demolition waste, and composters will be distributed free of charge. These services came into effect at the beginning of April and a waste collection calendar was distributed to all households in March. Similar to some neighbouring municipalities, Beaconsfield plans to implement an automated waste collection. This involves only collecting waste in a bin which can be lifted mechanically by the garbage truck.

"The Waste Reduction Strategy Open Houses were a success and we have listened to residents who expressed the need to have access to more tangible tools in order to reduce waste sent to landfills" proudly declared Mayor Georges Bourelle. The Mayor also urges interested residents to pick up a free composter and kitchen catchers available at Public Works, 300 Beaurepaire. One of each is available per Beaconsfield home. Along with the new collection services offered in 2015, this initiative is one of the five pillars of Beaconsfield's Waste Reduction Strategy.

The addition of these new services is an essential part of the Strategy proposed by the City of Beaconsfield and aims to optimize responsible management of the entire waste stream by offering flexible services adapted to Beaconsfield residents. The final version of the Waste Reduction Strategy will be presented during the coming months.
