Statement by Minister Glover on the 2015 Canadian Music Week

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 1, 2015) - Canadian Music Week begins today, and I am thrilled that thousands of music and media industry professionals from around the world are coming together in Toronto to share their knowledge and talent with music enthusiasts.

For 33 years, organizers have successfully designed a world-class event that combines business, technology and passion for music.

Our Government recognizes that the Canadian music industry contributes to the vitality of our cultural scene and is an important sector of our economy. Our music industry generates nearly $3 billion every year in economic activity from sound recordings, concerts, commercial radio and performing rights.

The Canada Music Fund gives Canadians and the rest of the world better access to Canadian music. In an average year, the Fund helps support over 400 album production projects and 1,100 marketing, touring and showcasing initiatives.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I commend the organizers of the 2015 Canadian Music Week for bringing together the international music community and promoting Canadian achievements.
