BMC Next Generation Technology Reduces Data Management Costs for DB2(R) by More Than 65 Percent

HOUSTON, May 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DB2 administrators are challenged with reducing costs and ensuring constant availability of critical data. To solve these issues, BMC is introducing BMC Database Solutions with Next Generation Technology (NGT) for DB2 for z Systems® to meet 24x7 infrastructure demands and reduce data base management costs by 65 percent.

Digital infrastructures are stretched by the complexity of data and extremely high transaction rates generated by modern workloads, which makes achieving true 24x7 application availability nearly impossible. BMC NGT meets the challenges of the new digital demands on DB2 data management with reductions in costs, effort and time spent on managing data. Sixty-five to 75 percent savings in CPU and elapsed times and storage savings of as much as 85 percent enable IT to run data maintenance more often to further reduce costs of end user applications while enhancing the customer experience through improved response times.

"Enterprises depend upon IT operations ability to leverage the latest advances in IT and mainframe technology," said Rich Ptak, managing partner, Ptak Associates. "Basic utilities simply can't cope with the demands of the digital and mobile age, we believe BMC has once again identified and delivered a truly exceptional solution that is very much needed."

BMC is also announcing two new additions to its family of database solutions for managing modern data with NGT, BMC Utility Manager and BMC LOBMaster. With BMC Utility Manager, customer applications will deliver faster and more consistent performance as a result of constantly optimized databases. As the first product designed specifically for the challenges of unstructured data in DB2, BMC LOBMaster ensures digital applications' unstructured data remains healthy, and will not slow down customers' access to the applications that support it.

"The digital transformation is creating incredible challenges for DB2 environments that must cope with increasing data volumes and the complexity of unstructured data," said Jonathan Adams, vice president and general manager of ZSolutions Optimization at BMC. "The addition of Next Generation Technology and the new solutions for managing modern data give BMC a generational leap forward in data management while also solidifying our z Systems market leadership."

BMC Database Solutions with Next Generation Technology are true 24x7 utilities with zero outages designed for the largest data and highest transaction volumes of today's digital enterprise. BMC Database Solutions with Next Generation Technology for DB2 for z Systems are available today, as BMC continues to deliver optimized IT performance to its customers.
