William Thompson, III Joins Bank of Hampton Roads as Commercial Relationship Manager in Elizabeth City, NC


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., May 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hampton Roads Bankshares, Inc. (Nasdaq:HMPR) (the "Company"), the holding company for The Bank of Hampton Roads ("BHR") and Shore Bank ("Shore"), today announced that William Thompson, III has joined BHR as a Commercial Relationship Manager in Elizabeth City, NC. BHR does business in North Carolina under the "Gateway Bank" brand name.

Thompson will report to Matt Scribner, Northeast North Carolina Market Leader, at the North Road Street branch in Elizabeth City. In this position, Thompson shares responsibility for commercial banking business growth and development in the Northeast North Carolina market.

Thompson most recently worked at First South Bank, serving as a Community Banking Officer. Previous to that, he was a Senior Business Analyst and Project Manager with nCino, LLC and also worked for over 5 years with PNC in Business Banking. Mr. Thompson began his banking career at Bank of America.

Thompson received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Elizabeth City State University. He is actively involved in a number of local community organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary and is also a color analyst for local high school football games with East Carolina Radio.
