Ponsse receives top prize in the Red Dot Award 2015

PONSSE Scorpion harvester won over the 38-member jury of the Red Dot Award: Product Deasign 2015. Ponsse proved its design excellence in the most important competition for product design, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. From 4,928 participants, Scorpion stood out and was awarded the Red Dot: Best of the Best for top quality and innovative design.

The Red Dot: Best of the Best is awarded for innovative design and is the highest individual award in the Red Dot Award: Product Design. Only the outstanding products in a category receive this award. In 2015, only 1.6 % of all entries in the competition won this sought-after award. This means that Ponsse is one of the forerunners in international design.

The awarded PONSSE Scorpion harvester is a totally new kind of a forest machine. The starting point for Scorpion was a forest machine that does not compromise on its usability, productivity or maintainability. Scorpions advanced technical solutions and right design for the job take harvesting productivity and operator comfort to a new level. The stylish design includes advanced technology. The crane's position and movement geometry, patented stabilising and levelling solutions and the triple-frame structure are totally new product solutions. The solutions are unique and provide our customers with an opportunity to adopt new harvesting methods and improve their own productivity.

Juha Inberg, Technology and RD Director of Ponsse Plc, says that the design of a forest machine not only refers to its look. “Appropriate design is pivotal to the operability of the machine. Operator ergonomics and ease of use are emphasised in demanding harvesting, where a very technical machine is used to make quick decisions with a significant impact on the productivity of work. In Scorpion, easy daily maintenance and safe operation have also extensively guided the design choices”, Inberg says.

The quality including product design stands for taking responsibility for the customer. “When it comes to forest machines, quality and reliability are the keys to success, not only in terms of productivity, but also considering the safety of users. We do not take any chances with them.  We have always concentrated and allocated our resources to things in which we can be the best in the world. Ponsse is renowned for its fast and advanced product development based on customers’ needs. In developing environmentally-friendly cut-to-length forest machines, we represent the state of the art”, Juha Inberg says.

Ponsse – a Finnish company created on a logging site

Forest machine entrepreneur Einari Vidgrén founded Ponsse in 1970. Today, the family company has experience of more than 10,000 PONSSE forest machines from logging sites around the world, and the company's operations are still guided by the needs of forest machine entrepreneurs. This year Ponsse is celebrating its 45th Anniversary.

Ponsse manufactures sustainable, innovative wood harvesting solutions. The product range covers harvesters, forwarders, harvester heads, cranes and harvesting-related data system products. PONSSE forest machines are designed and manufactured in Vieremä, Finland. Approximately 70% of the components of PONSSE machines are manufactured in-house, and the subcontracting network is mainly based in Finland. Ponsse has 11 subsidiaries and 28 retailers, and its service network covers almost 40 countries.
