Independence Blue Cross celebrates Bike to Work Day with one dollar Indego rides

First Independence Dollar Day happens May 15

PHILADELPHIA, May 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 15, Independence Blue Cross announces a new way for anyone to try Indego, Philadelphia's bike share program, for just one dollar. On Independence Dollar Days, 30-minute rides on Indego cost just one dollar instead of the standard price of four dollars per 30-minute ride. Starting in June, Indego riders can take advantage of Independence Dollar Days on the first Tuesday of every month.

"We're very proud to sponsor Indego because we want everyone to experience the fun, convenience, and health benefits of biking," said Daniel J. Hilferty, Independence president and CEO. "That's why we've committed to hosting an Independence Dollar Day every month for the next 12 months."

Independence Dollar Days are geared toward Indego trips that are purchased with a credit or debit card at any of the 70 bike stations throughout the city. Therefore, Independence Dollar Days will not work with an Indego Key for riders who are already Indego members. Trips lasting longer than 30 minutes will be charged the normal rate of $4 per half hour.

The Indego system operates 24 hours a day, year round in neighborhoods from Point Breeze, Passyunk and Center City to Yorktown, Olde Kensington, Francisville and Spruce Hill. Bike share users can access bikes at any station by using member cards or credit/debit cards and return them to any other station.
