Texas State University Student Awarded ASQ Healthcare Division Scholarship

ASQ Healthcare Division Awards Scholarship to Texas Graduate Student for Quality Work in Geriatric Care

MILWAUKEE, Wis., May 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - The Healthcare Division of ASQ has awarded the $2,000 Nightingale Scholarship to Erin Van Landingham from Austin, Texas, for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to pursuing quality improvement in the healthcare field.

The scholarship was presented during ASQ's 2015 World Conference on Quality and Improvement on Monday, May 4 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Healthcare Division's 4th Annual Healthcare Speakers Reception.

Van Landingham is currently studying for her master's degree in dementia and aging studies at Texas State University. She also is employed as a Medicare home health and hospice research and policy specialist at the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice. Van Landingham is also actively involved as a representative on the Aging Services Council, of Central Texas and serves on its Policy/Advocacy Committee.

"I am honored to be the recipient of the 2015 Nightingale scholarship," Van Landingham said. "This generous award will enable me to continue to pursue my educational goals of academic research in dementia and aging studies while I work to advocate for the well-being of the older adult population. ASQ has provided me with a network of knowledgeable professionals that I'm sure will prove to be invaluable to my future academic and professional development."

The ASQ scholarship is named in honor of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing who also pioneered healthcare statistics and promoted quality reforms in hygienic hospital care.

"We really admire Ms. Van Landingham's strong commitment to healthcare quality as an advocate for older adults and in the field of geriatric care," said Tammy Lampro, a member of the ASQ Healthcare Division Nightingale Scholarship Committee and director of performance improvement, HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital. "We are pleased to present this scholarship to Ms. Van Landingham as she continues to play a key role in the continued improvement of geriatric programs in the United States."
