Cedars-Sinai Selects Bottomline Technologies to Protect Patient Privacy

Real-Time Visibility and Behavior Analysis Helps Safeguard Patient Data

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., May 26, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bottomline Technologies (Nasdaq:EPAY), a leading provider of payment, digital banking, cyber fraud, and healthcare solutions today announced that Cedars-Sinai Health System, one of the nation’s leading hospitals and research institutions, has selected Bottomline’s Healthcare Privacy and Data Security solution.

In selecting Bottomline’s Healthcare Privacy and Data Security solution, Cedars-Sinai sought to deploy the most innovative technology solution available to safeguard patient privacy. As part of the multi-year agreement, Cedars-Sinai will also work closely alongside Bottomline to help enhance its solution for the benefit of healthcare providers and patients worldwide.

Bottomline’s unique, patented solution offers a non-invasive approach to monitor, replay, and analyze user behavior across multiple systems and applications.  Malicious and negligent activity can be identified in real time, regardless of the origin, including imposters posing as internal employees, intentional employee misconduct, or unintentional behavior that puts patients’ data and providers’ reputations at risk.

Cedars-Sinai’s privacy and compliance executives will have access to powerful forensic tools, analytics, and screen-by-screen replay of users’ activity that can later be used during an investigation. The solution also proactively deters privacy and security threats by giving healthcare providers the equivalent of a digital surveillance camera to monitor user and network activity.

“After an extensive review, we selected Bottomline’s Healthcare Privacy and Data Security solution because it is the only one that non-invasively monitors user behavior across networks and applications in real time, while minimizing the incidence of false positives,” said Darren Dworkin, Chief Information Officer of Cedars-Sinai.

“We’re thrilled that Cedars-Sinai selected our solution and we are delighted to partner with an industry leader in protecting patient privacy. Together, we will help to ensure that healthcare providers keep pace with the changing nature of privacy threats and remain compliant with regulations such as HIPAA and HITECH,” said Rob Eberle, CEO of Bottomline Technologies.

“Log file data provides an incomplete picture of user behavior and is time-consuming to analyze,” said Dworkin. “To enhance protection of patient data, healthcare organizations must have the best technology solutions in place to detect and stop suspicious behavior in real time, before an incident occurs. The Bottomline Healthcare Privacy and Data Security solution offers unique capabilities for a previously unaddressed aspect of patient privacy.”
