Students Make Significant Reading and Math Gains with Edgenuity MyPath

New Data Shows Jessamine County, Kentucky Students Leverage Edgenuity's Personalized Intervention Solution to Improve Academic Performance

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Edgenuity, a leading provider of online and blended learning solutions, today announced that previously under-performing students from Jessamine County Schools in Kentucky have demonstrated significant improvements across reading and mathematics by using Edgenuity MyPath. The results were reported by Jessamine County over the 2013-2014 school year and highlight how Edgenuity's intervention solution can enable higher student achievement through customized online and blended learning instruction.

"We recognized that some of our students needed extra attention in reading and math to get back on track," said Joe Matthews, Assistant Principal at East Jessamine High School. "MyPath offers highly personalized instruction to get students where they need to be and, beyond the elevated test scores, we saw that students who were previously struggling were truly excited to learn."

Enabling Academic Success in Jessamine County
Jessamine County Schools, which had previously been using Edgenuity's core curriculum for students in middle and high school, introduced MyPath during the 2013-2014 school year to students in grades 6-10 who performed below grade level on the Northwest Evaluation AssociationTM (NWEATM) MAP® Reading and Mathematics tests.

After one year, findings concluded that all Jessamine County MyPath students showed significant improvements in their reading comprehension and mathematics skills.

In reading comprehension:

  • Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students achieved significant gains of 5.5 points, 5.9 points and 5.5 points respectively, while ninth and tenth grade students achieved gains of 0.8 points and 1.7 points respectively.

In mathematics:

  • Results showed that students had significant improvements across all grade levels.
  • Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students achieved gains of 5.1 points, 5.0 points and 4.4 points respectively, while ninth and tenth grade students showed gains of 2.2 points and 2.9 points respectively.

How MyPath Works

Edgenuity MyPath helps students improve reading comprehension and vocabulary, rebuild foundational number sense and fluency, and prepare for success in high school, college, and beyond. It includes a placement test to determine an Individualized Learning Path (ILP) for each student; alternatively, districts can import data from MAP or other supported third-party assessments. Results are used to recommend a customized sequence of engaging, interactive lessons that reinforce grade-level concepts, review lower-level skills, or expose advanced students to enrichment material. Support extends to students performing as low as a third-grade level, although content is written to be age-appropriate for middle and high school students.

"Edgenuity MyPath is an exceptional tool for schools looking to fill the gaps and offer an additional layer of differentiated learning for students," said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity. "We are gratified to be working with Jessamine County Schools to help all of their students improve their academic performance and feel more empowered and successful in the classroom."
