Nasdaq Announces Mid-Month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date May 15, 2015


NEW YORK, May 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of May 15, 2015, short interest in 2,276 NASDAQ Global MarketSM securities totaled 7,850,811,450 shares compared with 7,599,858,277 shares in 2,268 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of April 30, 2015. The Mid-May short interest represents 4.31 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 5.05 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 688 securities on The NASDAQ Capital MarketSM totaled 754,451,647 shares at the end of the settlement date of May 15, 2015 compared with 717,685,991 shares in 678 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 4.09 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period’s figure of 3.55.

In summary, short interest in all 2,964 NASDAQ® securities totaled 8,605,263,097 shares at the May 15, 2015 settlement date, compared with 2,946 issues and 8,317,544,268 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 4.29 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.87 days for the previous reporting period.

The open short interest positions reported for each NASDAQ security reflect the total number of shares sold short by all broker/dealers regardless of their exchange affiliations.  A short sale is generally understood to mean the sale of a security that the seller does not own or any sale that is consummated by the delivery of a security borrowed by or for the account of the seller.
