Aarsleff signs contract for the electrification programme with Banedanmark

Copenhagen, 2015-05-29 14:54 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, the joint venture Aarsleff-Siemens has entered into a contract with Banedanmark for the electrification of 1,300 kilometres of the Danish railway network. The total contract value is DKK 2.8 billion, and the project will be carried out as a design and build contract.

The work will commence during the summer of 2015 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The joint venture Aarsleff-Siemens consists of Per Aarsleff A/S, Siemens A/S and Siemens AG. Aarsleff’s joint venture share is approx. DKK 1.8 billion and in addition to the parent company Per Aarsleff A/S, the project involves the subsidiaries Aarsleff Rail A/S and Wicotec Kirkebjerg A/S.

“The contract with Banedanmark reinforces our position within execution of railway work in Denmark. The project involves many of the Aarsleff Group's specialist skills, e.g. piling, technical solutions and railway work. We helped develop the first foundation types in the 1990s when the first sections in Denmark were electrified. Subsequently, we used the same concept in Spain and during the past many years, we have carried out similar work in Poland. We are pleased to contribute to this major project which is extraordinary in size and execution period. The large number of repetitions in the execution phase will give us a unique opportunity to further optimise processes, working procedures and equipment”, says Ebbe Malte Iversen, general manager of Per Aarsleff A/S.

The electrification of the 1,300 kilometres of tracks covers nine sections. The first phase will include the 57-kilometre-long section between Lunderskov and Esbjerg, scheduled to be completed in the autumn of 2016.

The contract includes options to electrify additional sections.

The contract does not affect Aarsleff's earnings expectations for the financial year 2014/2015.
