With the emergence of software defined networks (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) it is critical for enterprise and carriers to test and validate these new technologies before rolling them out in production environments. OpenStack and Software Defined Networks (SDN) have created a major paradigm shift to the existing IT architectural models. The concept of overlay networking, service chaining, automation and open orchestration for virtualized compute, network and storage resources is extremely complex and needs to be thoroughly tested and managed in a lab environment by qualified engineers.
