Fortune 200 Reterro Client Receives CAL EPA Nod for First Phase of LA Basin RCRA Site Clean-Up to Residential Level

Initial 30 Acres Earn Federal OK for 'No Further Action'

PLEASANTON, Calif., June 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Reterro, Inc., an emerging green remediation leader in eliminating hydrocarbon contamination from ongoing waste streams and soil, announced today that the California Department of Toxics Substance Control (CAL EPA) has approved the first phase of a significant remediation of chlorinated solvent contamination in the midst of a residential and light industrial area in the Los Angeles area.

Thirty of the project's more than 45 acres have received the CAL EPA "No Further Action" approval. The agency is expected to approve the balance of the project within the next several weeks. Reterro has been working on the site for 14 months on behalf of a major Fortune 200 client. The nod from the CAL EPA unlocks substantial value in the long-dormant parcel, which had been designated under the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) as a site unfit for residential or commercial use because of its hazardous waste.

The initial 30 acres at the site was cleaned up to soil matrix and soil vapor non-detect levels and is therefore suitable for residential development. This level of cleanliness is not typically achieved in these kind of sites. Though closing a RCRA site typically takes decades to complete, in this case, Reterro took only 14 months.

The CAL EPA action also illustrates the unique value of The Reterro Principle™, which is the only practically deployable remediation solution in space-constrained, highly populated areas. The Reterro Principle™ can clean tons of soil in hours to non-detect levels.

Public health and safety concerns often preclude other methods of hydrocarbon remediation because of public concerns about factors ranging from toxic emissions to the various risks associated with dump trucks transporting contaminated soil via urban streets.

Reterro's proprietary methodology, features a small on-site footprint and flameless process that delivers immediate certainty in safe waste-stream and soil remediation. The methodology constitutes the quickest, most cost-effective, cleanest and most compliant route to preventing ongoing contamination and unlocking the greatest value in previously unusable contaminated sites.

Reterro was selected for the chlorinated solvent clean-up because its solution was deemed to be the most cost-effective and most effective in addressing public health and safety concerns regarding the community surrounding the parcel. The Reterro Principle™ is enacted entirely on-site, thereby precluding the otherwise typical approach of trucking away of contaminated soil. One Reterro project estimate was that the company eliminated 2.8 million miles of large-truck transport of contaminated shipments.

"This project is a clear demonstration of the extraordinary value that Reterro brings to populated, space-constrained areas," said Reterro Chief Executive Officer Ferdinand Seemann. "After many years, this parcel can once again serve as a safe, productive and vibrant place in the heart of this residential community."
