Reference Module Wins in Two Content Categories, and Pathway Studio Wins for Best Science and Technology Information Solution Category

WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwired - June 17, 2015) - Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced that two of its content products were named winners of 2015 SIIA CODiE Awards in three separate categories.

Elsevier's Reference Module in Chemistry, Molecular Sciences and Chemical Engineering won in the Best Scholarly Publishing Information Solution and Best General Reference Service categories. Elsevier's Pathway Studio won in the Best Science and Technology Information Solution category.

Winners represent the information industry's best products, technologies, and services created by or for media, publishers, and information services providers. The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) is the principal trade association for the software and digital content industries. The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier award for the software and information industries, and have been recognizing product excellence since 1986. The awards have over 85 categories and are organized by industry focus of Content, Education, and Software.

The Reference Module in Chemistry, Molecular Sciences and Chemical Engineering combines thousands of related reference work articles into one online source of trustworthy information that is continuously updated by experts in the field. It includes:

  • Content from 24 of Elsevier's authoritative, peer-reviewed reference works;
  • More than 4,800 articles that are continuously reviewed, updated as needed and then date stamped with oversight by the expert editorial board;
  • Intuitive subject hierarchies, designed by the editorial board, that make it easy to navigate and find essential information;
  • Linking to relevant journal articles and book chapters on ScienceDirect for additional information.

"We greatly appreciate these awards for our Reference Module," said Suzanne BeDell, Managing Director of Science and Technology Books, Elsevier. "Researchers and students can use Reference Modules to explore chemistry and related topics, and they can be confident that they are using authoritative, current content overseen by our expert editorial board. Congratulations to the Reference Modules team for this honor."

Pathway Studio enables the analysis and visualization of disease mechanisms, gene expression and proteomics and metabolomics data. It is an exhaustive resource of easily searchable molecular cell interactions. It also helps biological researchers import and analyze their experimental data using normalization and statistical tools to identify cause and possible effects on biological processes.

"We have worked hard to make Pathway Studio into one of the most effective and comprehensive biology research products on the market, one that accelerates biological research and facilitates the drug discovery process by providing the latest insights into the mechanisms of disease. It also plays a key role in supporting key food crop research around the globe," said Jaqui Hodgkinson, Vice President for Product Development, Biology Products, Elsevier R&D Solutions. "We appreciate the recognition from the SIIA judges, and we plan to keep working hard to make Pathway Studio an even better resource for our customers."

Michael Marchesano, Managing Director of CISD & ABM divisions at SIIA, congratulated all of this year's CODiE Award winners.

"SIIA's 2015 Content CODiE Award winners are some of the most innovative, high-impact content products out there," Marchesano said. "Thank you for the contributions you have made to the content industry."

Winners were announced during the ABM & Information Industry Summit, at Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C. The ABM & Information Industry Summit (IIS) is a flagship conference for leaders across the business information industry, bringing together an audience of 300+ senior executives from B2B media, publishing and information companies to address important strategic issues and to network.

About the SIIA CODiE™ Awards
The SIIA CODiE™ Awards were established in 1986 by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), so that pioneers of the then-nascent software industry could evaluate and honor each other's work. Since then, the CODiE Awards program has carried out the same purpose -- to celebrate the software and information industry's finest products and services. The SIIA CODiE Awards are the industry's only peer-reviewed awards program. The first round review of all nominees is conducted by media, publishing, and information services executives with considerable industry expertise, including members of the industry, analysts, media and bloggers, and bankers and investors. The judges are responsible for selecting the CODiE Awards finalists. SIIA members then vote on the finalist products and scores from both rounds are tabulated to select the winners.
