Zipcar Officially Launches in Wilmington, Delaware

Zipcar's Convenient and Affordable Service Offers Additional Transportation Solution for The First State

WILMINGTON, Del., June 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Zipcar, the world's leading car sharing network, today announced a new partnership with the City of Wilmington to bring its "wheels when you want them" membership service to area residents, businesses, visitors and students. Eight Zipcars are now available in Wilmington for reservation by the hour or by the day, offering an affordable, convenient and sustainable transportation option.

Through this partnership, the City of Wilmington is providing six parking spaces at curb-side locations on N. Market Street, E. 3rd Street, Orange Street and Harland Boulevard. Additional Zipcars are located near the train station.

Zipcar's Wilmington fleet includes a variety of makes and models, such as a Volkswagen Golf named "Beetlejuice" and a Nissan Sentra named "Corrigan" for a weekend getaway, to zip around town or for a business meeting. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 180 free miles of driving per day, making it a great option for those looking for ways to save money on the high cost of car ownership. Zipcars can be reserved in seconds on Zipcar's mobile app, online or over the phone.

"Zipcar is thrilled to be expanding our service to Wilmington," said Kaye Ceille, president of Zipcar. "The City recognizes a need for simple and convenient transportation in and around the city, as well as for those traveling back and forth to Philadelphia or other cities in the region. Now, residents can enjoy the freedom and benefits of having access to a car without the cost and hassles of owning one."

Zipcar's launch in Wilmington builds on a successful program at the University of Delaware. With a large number of Delaware students and residents already using Zipcar, the company was eager to provide members with convenient access to wheels where they live, work and play. Zipcar members can reserve and drive vehicles throughout Delaware or in any one of the more than 470 cities and towns around the world where Zipcar operates, as well as at over 50 airports.

"I am pleased to see Zipcar come to Wilmington," said Mayor Dennis Williams. "Whether it's to get groceries, go to a business meeting, take a trip to the city's waterfront, or just to go for a drive, many people in Wilmington who do not own a car still want access to one on occasion, and Zipcar allows for that in a convenient and cost-effective way. Zipcar provides a new innovative transit option that's good for the environment and good for the city. I'm pleased to be a partner in their expansion."

Local businesses in Wilmington can also benefit from Zipcar's presence through the Zipcar for Business (Z4B) program that offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The Z4B program helps businesses save money, meet environmental sustainability goals and reduce parking requirements by providing employees with access to Zipcar for business needs and other uses.
