UPS to Expand European Distribution Campus with New Healthcare Facility

Roermond center to create as many as 200 jobs in the Netherlands

ATLANTA, June 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UPS® (NYSE: UPS) today announced that it is building a new healthcare distribution center in Roermond, the Netherlands, to accommodate growing demand. The new facility will measure close to 28,000 square meters and provide 41,000 pallet places. The announcement comes a month after UPS opened a healthcare-dedicated air freight forwarding facility at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The Roermond facility, which is scheduled to be completed in January 2016, is part of UPS's ongoing growth plan in Europe. With its close proximity to UPS's European air hub at Cologne/Bonn airport in Germany, it allows for short transit times, including next-day and two-day service, to global destinations. Up to 200 jobs will be created once the facility is fully operational.

"This third dedicated healthcare facility in the logistics-and transportation-centric area of Limburg significantly strengthens the capacity of UPS's European distribution campus," said Harld Peters, President, UPS West Europe. "It allows shippers to comply with international healthcare quality standards and serve a broad customer base, either directly through UPS's global express transportation network or via UPS satellite healthcare facilities in other European countries, such as Spain, Italy, Poland or Hungary."

During an official foundation stone-laying ceremony, Rianne Donders, Mayor of Roermond, and Twan Beurskens, Regional Minister of Economic Affairs, Vice Governor, Province of Limburg, expressed gratitude for UPS's ongoing investment in and support for the region. "Our city is very happy with the expansion of the UPS campus in Roermond," said Donders.

"This shows again that Roermond is situated perfectly as a logistics hub for UPS in Western Europe. Furthermore, this expansion of UPS creates jobs and a stronger economic position of Roermond in the region."

The new building, which will be fully compliant with EU Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines and licensed by the Dutch Ministry of Health, will provide inventory management, temperature-sensitive storage and quality assurance services with a direct feeder connection to UPS's air hub at the Cologne/Bonn airport. It also further broadens the company's global healthcare distribution network, which now encompasses more than 50 locations throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific, North and South America.
