The Washington Post Names NEI a 'Top Workplace'

WASHINGTON, June 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Nuclear Energy Institute has been named one of The Washington Post's Top Workplaces in 2015.

NEI was named one of the top workplaces in the small company and organization category and was among 317 nominees that were considered in the program.

This is the first time NEI participated in The Post's evaluation of the best places to work in the Washington, D.C., area.

"This recognition is the result of the exemplary work of our entire staff," said Marvin Fertel, NEI's president and chief executive officer. "It takes a strong team effort to make our organization successful.

"NEI thrives because we believe the most satisfied and engaged employees are those who enjoy their work environment; have good camaraderie with their colleagues; are able to maintain a vibrant work-life balance; have good health and wellness; are provided opportunities to grow their knowledge and skills, and feel that they are directly achieving our mission and vision. NEI actively promotes all of these elements through targeted, proactive programs," Fertel said.

The employee survey was conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. The rankings are determined solely on employee feedback—including questions on quality of leadership, pay and benefit practices, work-life balance issues, and more. Eighty-two percent of NEI's 122 employees participated in the survey.

Among the strengths of the organization, NEI employees enjoy the people they work with and appreciate the interest and care that the company consistently shows for their well-being. NEI employees are extraordinarily committed to NEI's core mission, which is to foster the beneficial uses of nuclear energy and commercial nuclear technology. NEI employees feel that nuclear energy, as a clean-air source of electricity, plays a vital role in meeting the growing need for low-carbon electricity. NEI also strives to optimize the engagement of employees and promotes a variety of programs to increase job satisfaction and morale.

NEI's office space is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art workspace designed to enhance organizational efficiency and interaction among NEI members. It received a Pinnacle Award from the International Interior Design Association and is LEED Gold certified. NEI is a member of The Carbon Registry and is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. The entire workspace is Wi-Fi-enabled to allow employees to work in communal areas such as the café, balconies and rooftop. Common areas in the office promote informal exchanges of information and encourage greater interactions among staff.

"With the challenging and demanding work we do for the U.S. nuclear energy industry, we need talented, driven professionals who are dedicated and passionate about their work, and we need to make sure they all have a solid work-life balance," Fertel said. "This award demonstrates the success of our commitment to a healthy, productive work environment. We are devoted to continuous improvement in all facets of our work."
