Caverion to deliver pulp towers to Metsä Fibre’s new bioproduct plant at Äänekoski, Finland

Caverion and Metsä Fibre have signed a contract on the delivery of fibre line pulp towers for a new bioproduct plant under construction in Äänekoski, Finland. The contract covers project management, design, materials purchase, prefabrication and installation. The value of the contract will not be disclosed.

Caverion will deliver a total of five pulp towers to the new plant. Two of these towers are among the largest in the world with a volume of 15,000 m3. The design and prefabrication of the pulp towers will begin in 2015 and the installation will take place in 2016.

The bioproduct plant under construction is the largest investment in the history of wood-processing industry in Finland. Metsä Fibre will invest a total of EUR 1.2 billion in the project. Once completed in 2017, the plant will produce about 1.3 million tonnes of pulp annually and in addition a variety of different bioproducts such as tall oil, turpentine, bioelectricity and wood-based fuels. Key criteria in the planning of the new plant include minimisation of emissions, low consumption of water and high energy- and material efficiency.

“This contract encompasses the most significant pulp tower delivery in the Nordic countries in recent years. Caverion has wide experience in the manufacture of similar pulp towers, and we are very happy that Metsä Fibre has chosen Caverion as their supplier in this challenging project,” says Juhani Pitkäkoski, Executive Vice President & CEO, Caverion’s Division Industrial Solutions.

“Metsä Fibre and Caverion have a long-term experience of good cooperation together. We believe that Caverion is a reliable partner also in this demanding project delivery”, says Timo Merikallio, Project Manager at bioproduct mill, Metsä Fibre Oy.
