Third Federal CEO Marc A. Stefanski and Family Hosting Benefit to Assist Cancer Patients in Need

“Rhonda’s Kiss” Fundraiser Named After Late Wife; Will Take Place July 10 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

CLEVELAND, July 01, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As a tribute to his late wife Rhonda, who passed away last November from pancreatic cancer, Third Federal Savings and Loan Chairman and CEO Marc A. Stefanski, and his children, are hosting an inaugural event at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame called Rhonda’s Kiss.  Through The Marc A. and Rhonda L. Stefanski Foundation and the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, Rhonda’s Kiss will raise money to help those in Cleveland’s inner city who receive a diagnosis of any type of cancer, but may be unable to make ends meet for treatment and support.

In partnership with Cleveland Clinic, Rhonda’s Kiss will provide financial support to decrease late-stage cancer diagnosis in urban communities and for patients in financial need by using a three-pronged approach that integrates outreach (education, awareness and screening), navigation (medical and home) and patient services (treatment and financial assistance and emotional support).

“The goal of the event is to provide an outlet for healing for our family, and to raise money to assist Cleveland residents in need who require financial assistance during cancer treatment,” said Marc A. Stefanski, Third Federal chairman and CEO. "We were able to afford the best of care for Rhonda, and we realize not everyone is as fortunate as we are.”

The program will be administered through Cleveland Clinic's Taussig Cancer Institute, which will screen patients' requests for non-medical needs, for anything ranging from help covering rent and utilities, to small-but-unexpected expenses related to their illness, such as wigs or transportation costs. The Clinic will handle requests for funds and evaluate needs through its community outreach program.

“When a patient is diagnosed with cancer, it changes everything,” said Jacquelyne Bailey, Ph.D., director of community outreach and patient navigation at Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute. “Our team works hard to exhaust any and all resources available to our cancer patients, but the support needed for many patients is much more than we can provide. Much-needed donations like those from Rhonda’s Kiss will help us treat the whole person, not just their illness.”
