Registration Open for Society of Exploration Geophysicists 85th Annual Meeting

Pre-eminent geophysics conference and exposition boasts largest technical program to date

TULSA, Okla., July 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Registration opened today for the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) International Exposition and 85th Annual Meeting, which takes place 18-23 October 2015 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Discounted "early-bird" registration rates are effective through 19 August 2015. With nearly 1,100 presentations in 139 diverse sessions, this year's conference boasts the largest technical program in SEG Annual Meeting history.

The SEG Annual Meeting, named earlier this year to the prestigious Top 250 U.S. Trade Shows list by Trade Show News Network, will bring more than 8,500 professionals, academicians, and exhibitors from more than 78 countries to the "Big Easy" for the world's greatest assembly of applied geophysicists. Geoscience professionals from all geophysical disciplines and from all parts of the world will be represented and will share the latest case histories, technological advancements, and research discoveries.

After two days of preconference events, the 2015 technical program will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on 19 October following an opening session titled "The Only Thing Constant is Change: Strategic Impacts of Current and Future Technologies to the E &P Business." The recent and rapid decline in the price of crude oil has posed a significant challenge to global energy companies, forcing them to make drastic cuts to their exploration and production budgets. During the 2015 opening session, a distinguished panel of speakers will meet this challenge head on and discuss how high-performance computing resources can aid energy companies in discovering and extracting oil in complex petroleum regions.

The global challenges inherent during an energy downturn will transform into opportunities as the main program continues through 22 October. All aspects of applied geophysics will be examined during the technical program, and attendees will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with new technologies and solutions from an anticipated 375 companies occupying more than 130,000 square feet of exhibit hall space. The Annual Meeting concludes on 23 October with postconvention workshops and a first-ever summit examining the safety of dams and levees.
