USHCC Applauds Macy's for Cutting Ties with Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, July 3, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) applauds Macy's for discontinuing their business relationship with Donald Trump, Chairman and President of The Trump Organization and founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts, following his continued harsh and insensitive remarks toward Mexicans and immigrants.

Macy's is the latest in a series of industry leaders who have decided to cut business ties with Trump. The USHCC has also abandoned Trump hotels as possible sites for its 2016 National Convention in Miami, Florida and its 2016 Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. These events are the largest gatherings of Hispanic business leaders in America.

"The USHCC stands with our partners at Macy's for terminating relations with Donald Trump, illustrating how Mr. Trump's degrading comments against Mexicans and immigrants are not only erroneous and politically short-sighted; they're unwelcome by America's business community," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "From the store front to the board room, Macy's has illustrated how corporate inclusion and diversity is as principled as it is profitable. The USHCC is proud of Macy's bold leadership, and will continue supporting like-minded individuals and corporations that uphold the fair treatment of all people."

Macy's decision is consistent with its longstanding commitment to minority-owned businesses. Last year, Macy's was inducted into the $100-250 bracket of the USHCC's Million Dollar Club, which recognizes corporations that lead the way in integrating Hispanic Business Enterprises (HBEs) into their strategic sourcing and procurement process. USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez is also a member of Macy's Supplier Diversity Advisory Council.

"We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture," read an official statement by Macy's. "We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation."

In 2014, Macy's was named one of America's "Top 10 Most Innovative Retailers" for transforming their supply chain to meet consumer needs more efficiently and effectively. Macy's also hosts an innovative vendor development program called "The Workshop," which gives minority and women-owned business owners the tools they need to scale their businesses within the retail industry.
