LEMMINKÄINEN TO BUILD TWO HYDROPOWER PLANTS IN WESTERN NORWAY

Lemminkäinen and Småkraft AS, a Norwegian power company, have signed an agreement on building two new hydropower plants in the Sogn and Fjordane County in Western Norway. The value of the contract is over EUR 19 million. The works will begin in July 2015 and be completed in December 2016.

The contract is part of Småkraft AS’s Fjærland project in which the company is developing six small-scale power plants along rivers flowing into the Fjærland fjord. Lemminkäinen will build the power plants Lidal and Romøyri that are located in an area not accessible by road. The contract covers the construction of the two power plants, including intakes, shafts and tunnels. In addition, Lemminkäinen will build intakes for two other power plants in the Fjærland project, including approximately 2.5 kilometres of tunnel construction.

“We have a strong position in the provision of infrastructure construction solutions and services in the Nordic and Baltic countries. This contract is a good example of projects we want to be a part of and it supports well our strategic target to grow our infrastructure project construction business,” says Executive Vice President Harri Kailasalo at Lemminkäinen.
