Pan Am Games track and field venue with Mondotrack receives prestigious designation from IAAF

TORONTO, July 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Another track and field facility with a track by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets, has received Class 1 certification by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

York Stadium will host the 2015 Pan Am Games July 10–26 and the Parapan Am Games Aug. 7–15. The venue, on the campus of York University in Toronto, met the precise quality and performance requirements by the IAAF to receive this prestigious certification.

The stadium is the third in Canada to receive IAAF Class 1 certification. All three have Mondo tracks. The other two facilities are Moncton Stadium and Université de Sherbrooke Stadium.

During the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, competitors will warm up at the nearby Toronto Track and Field Center, which also has a Mondo surface, and has received the IAAF's Class 2 certification.

Both of the Toronto facilities have Mondo's Mondotrack, the track surface of the 2008 and 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This will be the eighth time that the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games are held on surfaces made by Mondo. The company's tracks also have served as the competition surfaces of the Olympic Games from 1992 to 2012, the 2014 IAAF World Relays, 13 IAAF World Indoor Championships, nine IAAF Outdoor Championships, and numerous other prestigious international and national competitions.

"Because Mondo is committed to developing tracks that are ideal for both training and high-performance competition and that let athletes achieve their best times, Mondo's tracks are used at many high-profile national and international meets," said Michael Tovar, director, track & field, North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) for Mondo.
