European H2020 5GPPP Project XHAUL Kicks Off


WILMINGTON, Del., July 13, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc., a mobile technology research and development company, today announced that the European H2020 5G Public Private Partnership (5GPPP) infrastructure project, XHAUL, commenced on July 1, 2015.

A European Union 5GPPP consortium has begun work, which will stretch over a projected 30-month period, to develop a 5G integrated backhaul and fronthaul transport network, with the goal to flexibly and dynamically interconnect the 5G radio access and core network functions. The consortium consists of twenty-one partners, including InterDigital Europe, NEC, Ericsson and Nokia, among other industry leaders.

XHAUL targets a 30 percent reduction in network total cost of ownership, while improving network efficiency and helping in achieving the very low latency that will characterize the 5G networks of the future. For more information on the project kick-off, please click here.
