NEI Comments on Nomination of Jessie Hill Roberson as NRC Commissioner

WASHINGTON, July 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Nuclear Energy Institute's president and chief executive officer, Marvin Fertel, made the following remarks regarding President Obama's nomination of Jessie Hill Roberson to be a commissioner on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

"The nuclear energy industry congratulates Ms. Roberson. Ms. Roberson, who currently is vice chairman and acting chairman of the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board and served with the Department of Energy for 10 years, has 30 years of experience in the nuclear engineering field, including low level waste management, reactor operation and project management. Her relevant experience with nuclear energy technology aligns well with the NRC's mandate to ensure the safe operation of the nation's nuclear energy facilities.

"The nuclear energy industry believes the nation is best served by a fully functioning, five-member commission to carry out the NRC's safety mission, and looks forward to learning more about Ms. Roberson's views during the confirmation process."

The Nuclear Energy Institute is the nuclear energy industry's policy organization. This news release and additional information about nuclear energy are available at www.nei.org.
