Rush University Medical Center's Orthopedic Program Ranked No. 6 In U.S.

Top in Illinois

CHICAGO, July 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The orthopedic program at Rush University Medical Center continues its legacy of excellence with a 2015 ranking by U.S. News & World Report as No. 6 in the nation and the top-ranked orthopedic program in Illinois. No other specialty program at any other hospital in Illinois is ranked as high nationally as the Rush Orthopedic program, according to the magazine's 2015-2016 Best Hospitals issue.

The hospital's orthopedic program is staffed by physicians from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR), who are team doctors for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Fire Soccer Club.

"This is the second year in a row we have been honored with this ranking," explains Joshua Jacobs, MD, chairman of the Orthopedic Department at Rush University Medical Center and partner, Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. "We are pleased that our exceptional orthopedic department continues to be recognized nationwide by our colleagues."

"This acknowledgment illustrates the value of an unprecedented, research- based orthopedic program at a reputable teaching hospital," adds Charles Bush-Joseph, MD, managing partner, Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. "However, I'm most proud of the MOR physicians and staff, who continue to provide the highest level of health care to our patients. They are the ones who deserve this honor."

U.S. News and World Report reviewed 1,646 hospital orthopedic programs nationwide. All of these programs treat significant numbers of complicated inpatient cases. In fact, a hospital is reviewed only if it treated at least 337 such inpatients in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Other criteria used in the ranking were: reputation with specialists, survival, patient safety, patient volume, nursing intensity and nurse magnet recognition.
