NEW WESTMINSTER, BC, July 28, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BC Safety Authority (BCSA) has opened the call for nominations for the Lieutenant Governor Safety Awards 2015, now in its ninth year.

Every day in British Columbia, individuals and organizations work to ensure the equipment and technologies we interact with are safe. BCSA's Lieutenant Governor Safety Awards honour those committed to the safe installation, operation and maintenance of technical equipment. From electrical, boiler and gas systems, to elevators, railways, passenger ropeways and amusement devices, these technical systems all play important roles in our lives.

Presented in the name of Her Honour, the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of BC, the awards recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution to technical safety and provide a unique opportunity for those in the safety system to build relationships and share their expertise.

"These awards represent one important, public way that we can honour those who make a difference to technical safety," says Catherine Roome, BCSA President & CEO. "Technology makes our lives better in many ways but it must work safely. At BC Safety Authority, it's our job to build confidence in technical safety by working with the women and men who deliver safe technical systems every day in BC. Through these awards, we are celebrating the people who inspire safety leadership in BC industries, homes and communities."
