Uplink Releases New Cellular Module for Upgrading Interlogix Simon XT/XTi Alarm Panels to 3G Technology

Numerex Technology Integration Extends the Useful Life of Simon Alarm Panels, Allowing Them to Continue to Operate After the Planned, Nationwide, 2G Cellular Service Turn-Down

ATLANTA, Aug. 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Numerex (NASDAQ:NMRX) announced today that Uplink® Security, a Numerex solution and a trusted source in the security industry for alarm communicators since 1996, has released the Uplink 4590 module. This device expands the capabilities of the Interlogix Simon® XT/XTi security system control panel by integrating Numerex technology and services with it. The offering, a field-retrofit-capable, cellular communications module easily snaps into place onto the Simon XT/XTi circuit board, and upgrades the panel from old 2G to newer 3G cellular capability. This new module allows currently deployed Simon XT/XTi panels to continue to function and to report alarm events to the central station after the local "turn down" of 2G cellular service. Without this module upgrade, consumers owning Simon XT/XTi systems that use the old 2G technology are at risk of having their panels eventually fail to communicate an alarm event to the monitoring station during an active fire or intrusion situation.

The Uplink 4590 module, enabled by Numerex technology and services, transmits real-time alarm events to almost any central station via GSM cellular networks. It also allows dealers to remotely configure the alarm panel while providing users with remote arming and disarming of their alarm systems from any internet-enabled computer or smartphone.

The Uplink 4590 module offers:

  • Update to more modern cellular communication technology
  • Remotely viewable panel and zone status
  • Remotely configurable user and installer codes
  • Accessible history log
  • Flat-rate billing for improved dealer profitability
  • Live technical and activation support

"As cellular carriers upgrade their towers to more modern equipment, panel owners need also to keep their panels current, in much the same way that they keep their own cell phones current," said Kelly Gay, president of Security Solutions for Numerex.   "This snap-in communication module takes advantage of Numerex technology and services, and accomplishes a significant upgrade without requiring owners to replace their entire security system. As an added benefit, the new panel supports the convenience and power of mobile connectivity capabilities—all at a competitive price."

Hundreds of thousands of Simon XT/XTi control panels are believed to be installed in homes across North America. The Uplink 4590 module allows dealers and home owners to continue to conveniently use, monitor, and control their alarm systems beyond the planned migration by cellular carriers from 2G, extending each panel's useful life and providing uninterrupted protection to homeowners.

The Uplink 4590 module is available nationwide from Uplink dealers and distribution partners.
