Rothenberg Legacy Award, presented by Major League Soccer (MLS).
The Alan I. Rothenberg Legacy Award will be presented yearly to an individual who has made contributions that have left a legacy on MLS. Mr. Rothenberg has been dedicated to the sport since the 1970s when he was an owner of the Los Angeles Aztecs of the North American Soccer League. He went on to serve as the Commissioner of Soccer for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and in 1990 he became the president of the U.S. Soccer Federation. Mr. Rothenberg took on the role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., was Chairman of the FIFA 1999 Women's World Cup in the U.S., and drove the launch of MLS including securing the league's original owners.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber honored Rothenberg during pregame ceremonies at the 20th annual AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 29th. In receiving his award, Mr. Rothenberg stated, "It is a great honor to be recognized by MLS.
