3E Company Updates MSDgen SDS Authoring System to Support Conformance with Canada's GHS Initiative

MSDgen 6.56 Also Features Expanded Documents and Resources to Support Conformance with Serbia, Taiwan, and Turkey's GHS Authorities

CARLSBAD, Calif., Aug. 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 3E Company, a leading provider of environmental health and safety (EH&S) compliance and information management services, today announced the immediate availability of MSDgen® 6.56, the latest version of its Safety Data Sheet (SDS) authoring system. The new release includes numerous enhancements aimed at simplifying global hazard communication initiatives, including expanded regulatory information for adaptation of the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) regulations by Canada, Serbia, Taiwan, and Turkey. 3E Company is a Verisk Analytics (Nasdaq:VRSK) business.

MSDgen 6.56 supports Canada's recently adopted Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR) in the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015, which aligns with the 3rd Revised Edition of UN GHS for classification and 5th Revision for labeling, as well as some aspects of the HazCom 2012 regulations. MSDgen 6.56 also includes changes to accommodate the update to the 5th Revised Edition of the UN GHS. These changes include a new hazard statement and changes to many precautionary statements. 3E Company has extended MSDgen to also support new GHS regulations in Serbia, Taiwan, and Turkey. The latest version includes new rules, SDSs, and label templates to support these authorities.

In addition to the new regulatory updates, MSDgen 6.56 includes a number of new features, including a .NET interface that allows users to import and export 3E-authored base chemicals and a business-unit-level security feature that allows users to restrict access to materials based on manufacturer/material relationships. With the new security feature, users within a "manufacturers" security group can access only those materials associated with the same manufacturer in the section 1, product, and company identification sections of the SDS.

"The upside of countries around the world finalizing their GHS adoption of hazardous products regulations is that companies doing business in these countries can expect more streamlined processes for classifying and labeling hazardous workplace chemicals, as well as training employees in hazard communication," said Clark D. VanScoder, senior vice president, Authoring Software and Services, 3E Company. "However, with these changes comes a need to devote extra resources to ensure conformance with country-specific requirements. With the latest version of MSDgen, companies can dramatically simplify the process of gathering accurate data, applying international chemical regulatory guidelines, and producing compliant hazard communication documentation without needing additional resources to get the job done."

MSDgen 6.56 is available immediately.
