Mondo once again to serve as competition surface for IAAF World Championships

BEIJING, Aug. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- When the world's greatest track and field athletes convene at the famous National Stadium at Beijing's Olympic Park for the 15th IAAF World Championships Aug. 22-30, they'll have a championship surface underfoot: Mondotrack, made by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets.

"Mondo has a long history with the IAAF, and Mondo tracks have been the competition surface of numerous IAAF World Championships, including nine outdoor world championships, 13 indoor world championships, last month's IAAF World Youth Championships, and the 2014 and 2015 IAAF/BTC World Relays," said Michael Tovar, director of track & field for Mondo's North America, Central America and Caribbean region. "Our tracks are used at so many prestigious competitions, including the Olympic Games and IAAF championships, because we are committed to developing fast tracks ideal for both training and high-performance competition that let athletes compete at their highest levels."

The biennial event typically draws hundreds of athletes from around the world. In 2013, which was the last time the competition was held, 1,970 athletes from 47 countries competed.

Mondotrack builds on the success of the company's renowned Super X Performance. Designed for superior athletic performance, Mondotrack provides optimal traction and a greater contact area than other tracks. It converts the maximum amount of force generated by athletes' foot strikes to energy for maximum energy return, which helps athletes achieve faster times compared to running on other surfaces.

Mondo has served as the competition surface of the Olympics Games since 1992, and more than 250 world records have been set on tracks made by the company.
