PLANO, Texas, Aug. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- My Possibilities (MP) is a Plano-based non-profit and continued education center dedicated to empowering adults with cognitive disabilities, whom they lovingly refer to as HIPsters – Hugely Important People. The organization is holding a Golf Clinic for their students on Monday, August 24 at 1 p.m. at Gleneagles Country Club.  The Golf Clinic is being held to help prepare the students for the 7th Annual HIPster Golf Classic presented by Berry Family Services on Monday, August 31 at Gleneagles.

The HIPsters will receive their lesson from golf pro Tim Brown, who has served as a Golf Professional in the industry for twenty years. This clinic will take place on August 24 at 1:00 p.m. The HIPsters will be practicing their swings and perfecting their putts alongside Brown and their health and wellness instructors from MP.

In addition to the lesson on August 24, Shawn Humphries, named a Top 100 Instructor by Golf Digest, will be hosting a lesson for the HIPsters during the HIPster Golf Classic on August 31. This will take place before players leave for their 9:00 a.m. tee-time. Shawn will work with HIPsters to supplement the teaching that they received from Tim Brown just one week before.

The tournament on August 31 has gained momentum with a stellar repertoire of sponsors alongside Berry Family Services as the Presenting Sponsor of My Possibilities' 2015 HIPster Golf Classic. AMP Foundation has joined at the Platinum Level, and Folsom Properties as a Silver Sponsor. Also supporting the tournament at the Bronze Level is Smith Exploration, Centurion American, FCS Construction LLC, Frost Bank, Heritage Land Bank, and Legacy Texas Bank. GolfBoard will be on the course bright and early with a product demo, allowing players to "Surf the Earth" with this new innovative product. Toyota of Plano will also be on the course with vehicles to showcase. Throughout the course will be vendor booths hosted by: 18|8 Men's Fine Salons, Ameriprise Financial, Ebby Halliday Realtors, and Green Bank, N.A. Balfour Beatty Construction, Copart Inc., and Cutting Edge Pediatric Therapy are also sponsors of the event.

These supporters, along with so many others, believe in providing educational and life enriching opportunities for MP students. Their ongoing support shows the level of commitment that North Texans have for the special needs community. "It is heart-warming to see the community rally around My Possibilities," said Charmaine Solomon, Chairman and co-Founder of the center. "There is no way to thank all of the businesses, donors, concerned parents and volunteers that have spent countless hours working to make this event possible," Solomon added. "With the support of our friends within the community, My Possibilities continues to grow and offer an unprecedented array of educational programs that have made a real difference in the lives of the adults with special needs that live in North Texas."

Each week, My Possibilities serves 350 HIPsters. Recognized as the only program of its kind in the United States, My Possibilities provides continuing education and vocational training for adults with cognitive disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Asperger's and others. "We have an important mission," noted Solomon. "State funding for families with special needs adults is lower in Texas than in any other state, and the support we receive from the community during our fundraising efforts helps us provide a state-of-the-art facility and all day services for under $20 per client per day. Our corporate sponsors, friends, neighbors and other concerned citizens in North Texas are the foundation of our program, and we deeply appreciate their ongoing support."
