ASQ Quality Education Conference & Workshop: Enhancing Education Through Innovation & Continuous Improvement

ASQ's Quality Education Conference expands its focus this year to provide quality improvement methods for all levels of education from K-12 to workforce development.


MILWAUKEE, Wis., Sept. 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Across the globe, educators and quality professionals are under more pressure than ever to achieve results for students at all levels. Sharing approaches for maintaining quality in education processes and developing innovative, performance-driven thinkers is the aim of the ASQ Quality Education Conference and Workshop to be held Nov. 14 – 16, at the Westin Houstin Memorial City in Houston, Texas.

Previously known as National Quality Education Conference, the conference has been rebranded by the ASQ Education Division to reach global educators and professionals with an expanded focus on K-12, higher education, workforce development and science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM. This year's theme is Enhancing Performance in Education through Innovation and Continuous Improvement.

The conference features the following keynote speakers:

  • Mary Ellen Weber, Ph.D. - former NASA Astronaut and veteran of two spaceflights, including STS-101 in 2000, a Space Station construction mission, and STS-70 in 1995, a satellite deploy mission. Weber consults in strategic communications and on strategies for high-stakes operations.
  • Richard M. Felder, Ph.D. -- Hoechst Celanese Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University. Author of more than 300 papers and regular presenter on science and engineering education throughout the United States and abroad.
  • Jim Shipley -- Educator with more than 20 years of administrative experience. He served as executive director of the Pinellas County Quality Academy and was responsible for the implementation and use of the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria in 155 school sites and with all district-level administration and supporting services departments.
  • Anna M. Lewis -- Award-winning toy inventor, author, and creativity advocate. Author of Women of Steel and Stone: 22 Inspirational Architects, Engineers, and Landscape Designers (Chicago Review Press 2014).
  • Andrew D. Watson -- Fellow of the Surdna Foundation and the recipient of the 2015 Art Education Technology Outstanding Teacher Award from the National Art Education Association. He will discuss the application of quality to workforce development.
  • 7 Steps to Successful School Turnaround -- Presenter: James Davis, Ph.D.
  • The Agile Leader: Developing Competencies for a Collaborative Workforce -- Presenters: Jan Means and Chris Garrison
  • Effectiveness of Innovative Instructional Methods -- Presenters: Jami Kovach, Ph.D. and Stravani Korpol
  • Enhancing the Environment for Minorities in STEM -- Presenter: Terry Showers, Ed.D.
  • Beyond Six Sigma and Baldrige: Systemic Improvement -- Presenters: Walter A. Garrett, Jr., and Martha Ann Garrett, M.Ed.
