USHCC Addresses Donald Trump on Immigration and Hispanic Issues

WASHINGTON, Sept. 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The following is a statement from the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce:

"At the request of the Trump campaign, USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez met privately with Donald Trump today in New York. At the USHCC, we believe it is important to confront issues head on. When it comes to immigration, we've repeatedly found ourselves in disagreement with Mr. Trump. His advisors stressed however, that our disagreement was based on the media's mischaracterization of his stances. We wanted to hear Mr. Trump clearly articulate his views, away from the public spectacle, the media, and the debate floor.

We did not endorse, support, or give credence to Mr. Trump's public statements. Rather, we wanted to do privately what many – including Jorge Ramos most recently -- have tried to do publicly: ask Donald Trump for clarity on his policies, how he intends to effectively execute them, and who his policies would impact.

That is why Mr. Palomarez agreed to the Trump campaign's request. During the meeting, Mr. Palomarez and Mr. Trump discussed a range of issues, including the importance of the Hispanic electorate, immigration, the economy, and other issues that our members have requested all presidential candidates to address.

The USHCC is a nonpartisan organization. As a general policy, candidates from both parties have been invited to participate in our presidential candidate Q &A series, including Mr. Trump. Following the private meeting, both parties have agreed to a public Q &A session on October 8th between Mr. Palomarez and Mr. Trump."
