TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 03, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On August 19th, the Church of Scientology of Tampa along with the Tampa Bay Volunteer Ministers recognized three individuals with a long history of humanitarian endeavors with an afternoon awards ceremony centered around helping people solve problems in their lives. The event was in recognition of World Humanitarian Day, created by the United Nations with the theme “Inspiring the World’s Humanity.”
Ms. Tanya Lewis, Executive Director of Children with a Vision, Mrs. Michelle Walker, Executive Director of Miracles Outreach Center and Mr. James Hammond, Founder of the Tampa Hillsborough Action Plan (THAP) bring hope and help to Tampa residents by: helping youth to integrate back into our community after incarceration; providing a safe, nurturing environment for foster children; and promoting economic empowerment, housing and health services for the Tampa Bay community.
The event at the Church of Scientology’ Ybor Square continued into the early evening with guests staying to network and exchange information about the different humanitarian groups in attendance. One guest stated, “It’s beautiful that the Church of Scientology recognizes different groups and brings them together by acknowledging those who go far and beyond – it means a lot.”
Church staff also presented information on the Scientology Volunteer Minister Program to their guests. The Scientology Volunteer Minister program was developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard for people of any faith, culture or creed to use the tools the program provides to help their families and communities. Pat Harney, spokesperson for the Church of Scientology said, “Equipped with effective tools to resolve virtually any difficulty, Volunteer Ministers live by the motto: ‘No matter the problem, something can be done about it.’
In creating the Volunteer Minister program, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “If one does not like crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a Volunteer Minister and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance.”
