DETROIT, Sept. 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As the Fall Semester gets underway, Marygrove College is happy to announce that it will continue the success of last year's Corporate Work Study Program, giving Detroit Cristo Rey High School seniors the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and get a head start on their college education.

The work study program is just one component of Marygrove's relationships with Cristo Rey. In January, Cristo's Rey's senior class will come to Marygrove every Monday through Thursday, where they will join Marygrove students and professors in the classroom, and have the opportunity to earn college credits for free.
This dual-enrollment program is a cost-effective way to earn college credit while still in high school, but Marygrove and Detroit Cristo Rey have an innovative approach to the current paradigm. Unlike many dual-enrollment programs popular around the nation, this one is much more than a rudimentary introduction to college life, or a way for students to pile up credits. Marygrove's program is an immersive experience, one that exposes students to a wide range of college subjects throughout the semester, and gives students the opportunity to learn in an intimate educational environment with a variety of college faculty. Through this experience, students are given a head start that will enhance their academic performance.
So what was the impetus for this program? And what motivates Marygrove College to allow high school students the opportunity to earn college credits for free? "As I see it," said Marygrove's Interim President James F. Birge, "our institution and the city of Detroit are inextricably linked.
