USHCC Foundation Congratulates Winners of the 2015 National BizFest High School Entrepreneurship Program

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Twelve students from across the country joined the 2015 United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce National Convention in Houston, TX to compete in the BizFest National Entrepreneurship Competition. Four students from each regional location progressed to the National Competition, a program presented by Bank of America, sponsored by Kohl's Department Stores and Ford Motor Company Fund. A total of $10,000 in scholarship funds were awarded to Karina Gonzalez, Storm Turner, Deniz Lopez-Jimenez, and Juan Rodriguez.

"The USHCC Foundation understands the value of investing in America's future. BizFest works with students to develop skills for young entrepreneurs to succeed in our changing economy. Programs like BizFest are the engine of a diverse American economy," said Javier Palomarez, President and CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce & Foundation.

BizFest is a three-day workshop that teaches high school students how to turn hobbies into profitable business ventures; offers hands-on, practical training for aspiring entrepreneurs; and encourages students to pursue a higher education to become the future business leaders of America. During the BizFest Washington, DC, Texas, and California Regional Competitions students were motivated to think outside the box and create solutions to modern day problems. Professors from the University of Texas-Pan American provided students with the tools to create a successful business plan.

"We recognize that workforce development and education initiatives that help young people gain critical entrepreneurial and personal financial management skills are critical to economic growth," said Kerry Sullivan, President, Bank of America Charitable Foundation. "We're pleased to partner with USHCC Foundation and support programs like BizFest that connect young entrepreneurs with the tools and resources needed to succeed in an ever-changing, diverse economy."
