ROYAL OAK, Mich., Sept. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. John Simon of Woodside Animal Clinic in Royal Oak, Michigan, would like to raise awareness about the People, Pets & Vets Program taking place on November 7, 2015 in Clinton Township. While Dr. Simon is no longer involved with the program, he is the veterinarian who founded it. Dr. Simon won an award from the Michigan State Association for the program, which became part of the Michigan State Association's PR program. Dr. Simon coordinated the program for the first four or five events before it was subsequently taken over by the Michigan State Veterinary Association.
Woodside Animal Clinic founder Dr. John Simon of Royal Oak, Michigan, is proud of his history as the founder of the People, Pets & Vets program. He earned an award from the Michigan State association for the program, which takes place in two venues yearly.
The 2015 event will take place on Saturday, November 7, between the hours of 11:00 am and 3:00 pm at Macomb Community College in Clinton Township.
The People, Pets & Vets program consists of more than 40 booths designed around the theme of creative education for attendees. Subjects for the displays include many health-related topics for pets, such as cardiology, obesity, rehabilitation therapy, behavior modification, dentistry and more. There are even displays focused on career opportunities for veterinarians.
The event is family-oriented with many hands-on opportunities that allow children to see, touch, and ask questions about various exhibits. Children often enjoy this opportunity to learn more about farm animals, exotic pets, and the importance of respecting all animals. They are even allowed the opportunity to learn about unusual pets like llamas.
One of the most popular features for children is the Teddy Bear Clinic where they can bring in their favorite stuffed animals for a little outpatient care.
While teddy bears and stuffed animals are encouraged, live pets are not. Dr. Simon stresses, "There are plenty of animals at the event, and opportunities to associate with those. Pets become a distraction and a risk at these types of events."
Dr. Simon first started the program as a means to introduce the community to the many different veterinarian services available to their pets. It was also an opportunity to explain how Woodside Animal Clinic can meet those needs, such as, alternative and conventional medicine, dental, spaying and neutering, preventative treatments, vaccinations, and hygiene.
