Louis Berger recognized with two awards by ARTBA's Women Leaders Council

MORRISTOWN, N.J., Oct. 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Louis Berger's efforts to support diversity in engineering were recognized by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) with two high-profile distinctions. The 2015 Women Leaders in Transportation Design and Construction Awards honored Connie Crawford, senior vice president and global practice leader for rail and transit, with the Ethel S. Birchland Lifetime Achievement Award, and the firm received the Glass Hammer Award for innovative efforts to promote women leaders through the Women at Louis Berger committee.

"I cannot think of a more deserving individual than Connie, who exemplifies all the desirable qualities in a true leader and has demonstrated this throughout her career, connecting effortlessly with people from all geographies, cultures and walks of life," said Jim Stamatis, Louis Berger CEO. "The Glass Hammer Award is a wonderful recognition of the great strides Louis Berger has made in the past few years to become worthy of such a distinction, and is a testament to the commitment of everyone who has worked hard to make the vision of Women at Louis Berger a reality."

Crawford has built an international reputation in the transportation industry and was recognized for her outstanding leadership and long-term service in the public and private sectors. Particular focus was given to her dedication to advancing other women leaders through professional organizations and within Louis Berger. ARTBA also acknowledged Crawford's efforts to push innovation through technical skills transfer, fostering STEM professionals, and building a more diverse workplace.

The Glass Hammer Award is given to a company that has innovative programs and activities directed at successfully promoting women leaders within their organization. The Women at Louis Berger committee was recognized as a major tool in helping Louis Berger develop, attract and retain women leaders; promote educational opportunities for career advancement; champion management models to build equity; and encourage a healthy work-life balance.

The annual Women Leaders in Transportation Design and Construction Awards program honors the extraordinary efforts of individuals, companies and public agencies that demonstrate leadership and innovation in the transportation field, as well as the promotion of women leaders.

ARTBA advocates for strong investment in the U.S. transportation design and construction industry. The Women Leaders Council within ARTBA promotes leadership and career advancement for professional women through networking, mentoring, recognition and educational activities.
