EMCORE to Showcase Medallion Series CATV Transmission System and DOCSIS 3.1 Optical Components at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo

System to Feature the Medallion 7000 Series Fiber Amplifier, Now Expanded to 64 Outputs of 21 dBm, Along With Medallion CATV Transmitter and Optical A/B Switch

ALHAMBRA, Calif., Oct. 08, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR), a leading provider of Indium Phosphide (InP) optical chips, components, subsystems and systems for the broadband and specialty fiber optics market, announced today that it will host a demonstration of its Medallion Series CATV Transmission System at the Society of Cable Television's (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo, Booth #2821, October 14-16, 2015 at the Earnest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The system on display will feature EMCORE's 19” rack-mount Medallion Series 1550 nm CATV Transmitter, Optical A/B Switch and CATV Fiber Amplifier.

Medallion Series Transmitters are available for direct or external modulation and are based on EMCORE’s proprietary laser technology. EMCORE’s lasers are designed for low noise, high optical output power and narrow optical linewidth resulting in unmatched performance. The transmitters leverage proprietary pre-distortion circuitry to provide superior CSO (Composite Second Order) and CTB (Composite Triple Beat) performance allowing links up to 150 km. In addition, the Medallion‘s SBS (Stimulated Brillouin Scattering) suppression levels of greater than 21 dBm through 40 km of fiber, makes it ideal for RFoG (Radio Frequency over Glass) and RF overlay in FTTx networks.

The Medallion 2100 Optical A/B Switch is a high-performance solution for network protection and optical redundancy in CATV/FTTx networks. Its automatic switching protects the network from inadvertent service outages due to up-stream optical signal degradation.

EMCORE’s Medallion 7000 Series CATV Fiber Amplifiers provides very stable optical outputs over a wide operating temperature range, as well as the exceptionally high power and low noise figures demanded by CATV applications. The Medallion 7100 is packaged in a compact 1 RU housing, while the 7200 is housed in a 2 RU enclosure and is now available with up to 64 ports of 21 dBm. Optional integrated WDM filters for RFoG or RF overlay in FTTx further preserves rack space and reduces cost by eliminating a separate network element.

“Our Medallion series of rack-mount CATV transmission equipment is ideal for network systems providers that demand the highest-quality, economical delivery of HD video and audio, along with the highest bandwidth data transmission for their customers,” said Gyo Shinozaki, Director of Marketing for EMCORE’s CATV products. “The Medallion series is also designed for future DOCSIS 3.1 compliance to support cable operators as they move to the new DOCSIS standard for even higher-speed data transfer over existing CATV networks,” added Shinozaki.

At Cable-Tec Expo, EMCORE will also showcase its full line of DOCSIS 3.1 lasers and optical receivers, 1600 and 1700 series DFB butterfly lasers, 1900 series TO-56 DFB lasers, broadband photodiodes, and components for wireless and Distributed Antenna System (DAS) applications. EMCORE will be meeting with customers, industry analysts and the media at our booth #2821 and invite you to contact us if you are interested in scheduling a meeting.
